Facing several adversities in life, Asha has been thoroughly devoted to her career.

Asha and her older sister (Lata) started singing for movies after the death of their father, Deenanath Mangeshkar when Asha was 9 years old. The burden of helping their family (financially) was left in the shoulder of these two sisters. The two sisters were inspired by their father who was a classical musician. Therefore, both of them decided to take up singing as their career.

Asha had innate ability to sing extremely well. This is the reason why she has been able to sing for almost 12000 songs. Starting several decades ago, she has sung in Indian as well as other various languages including Bengali, Gujrati, Tamil, Marathi (which was her mother tongue), English, Malay, and Russian. Her ghazals, bhajans, pop, classic and folk songs has been able to hypnotize the entire world.

During 1960s and 1970s, she tried to sing song that people could dance to. After that people start praising her voice. It was then time to show her versatility amongst people. Therefore, in 1980s, she took up an opportunity to sing Ghazals in the films Umran Jaan and Ijazat.

The song ‘Dum Maro Dum’ enraptured many people even living outside the boundary of her own country. Her romantic song ‘Chura liya hai tum ne’ still excites people.

Never getting tired to sing, in 1990s she tried out something new. She tried on singing Remix songs. Asha tied wed knots two times.

When she was 16, she eloped with Lata’s personal secretary, Ganapatrao. But, this was disastrous marriage for her. She came back to her maternal house with two kids and pregnant with the third child. Splitting up with him made Asha Ji even braver and very much devoted towards her career.

Later on relationship with Rahul Dev Burman resulted in marriage between the two in 1980s. But, this marriage only lasted till Rahul expired.

The most tragic incident:

The most tragic moment for Asha Ji was in 2012 when her daughter Varsha committed suicide.

According to the police report, this incident is still clueless. Even after scrutinizing the incident, nobody is sure why this incident happened. This incident occurred when Asha was in Singapore. It was reported that Varsha shoot herself in the head. It was found out that Varsha had been undergoing psychological treatment when they talked to her close members. This was a complete shock to the family. Even now this incident strikes hardly on Asha Ji.

Is singing only her interest?

Asha Ji says that if she wasn’t a singer, she would take cooking as her full-time career. She has been running restaurants in Dubai, Kuwait and the UK. She further adds up that these restaurants have so far been running up successfully.
