Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992. Her parents are Ricardo Joel Gomez and former stage actress Amanda Dawn “Mandy” Cornett. When she was 5 years old her parents separated and she remained with her mother. From her early childhood, her family had financial troubles in which her mother was struggling to provide the basic needs. Gomez gained her interest in the entertainment industry just by watching her mother prepare for stage productions.

At first, she began her acting career by auditioning for various roles. She meet Demi Lovato during an audition for Barney and Friends. Both girls were later selected to appear on the series in 2002, with Gomez portraying the character of Gianna. It was her first acting experience. She also auditioned for a role in the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place, playing the lead role of Alex Russo. The series quickly became a hit for the network, highlighting Gomez to more mainstream success.

Soon she got attracted towards the music industry and formed the pop-rock band ‘Selena Gomez & the Scene’ through her record deal with Hollywood Records and released their debut studio album in August 2009.

Engagement as an philanthropist, activist

• Selena Gomez participated in Jude’s Children’s Hospital “Runway For Life” benefit in October 2008.

• Named as UNICEF’s spokesperson in the same year, for the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign, which aimed to encourage children to raise money on Halloween to help children around the world. As a result, named UNICEF’s spokesperson in 2009 and 2010 too.

• In August 2009, Selena Gomez (17-year-old) became the youngest UNICEF ambassador ever. In September 4 2009, which was her first official field mission, she traveled to Ghana for a week to witness the vulnerable conditions of children that basically lacked vital necessities such as clean water, nourishment, education and healthcare.
  
• Involved with the charity RAISE Hope For Congo. The charity helps raise awareness aboutconflict minerals and violence against Congolese women.
• “Disney’s Friends for Change“, an organization which promoted “environmentally-friendly behavior”, she was linked with this foundation too. She also get position of ambassador to the Ryan Seacrest Foundation.

Achievement and Recognition

Gomez won three Teen Choice Awards for her lead role in Wizards of Waverly Place. She also won the Kids’ Choice Award in the category of Favorite TV Actress, five times in a row. In 2003, for her social work efforts, she received the ‘Chris Greicius Celebrity Award’ from the ‘Make-A-Wish Foundation’, and the ‘Young Visionary Award’ at the ‘Unite4: Humanity’ ceremony.

The lead single “Come & Get It” won the Choice Break-Up Song at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, and the Best Pop Video at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. In the year 2015, Selena received the Chart-Topper award at the Billboard Women in Music event. At the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, Gomez won Favorite Animated Movie Voice for Hotel Transylvania 2.

In 2016, Gomez received ‘American Music Awards’ for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.  In the same year, she achieved seven ‘Guinness World Records’.

Personal Life

Selena’s personal life came to spotlight right after her fame hit big. She was first rumored dating fellow Disney star Nick Jonas before distance separated them.

Her biggest high-profiled relationship was with Justin Bieber but eventually ended up into an on and off again relationship with him. They went on some public appearances together when both of their careers were at peaks. They dated for over two years, and despite a few reunions in 2013, they remain broken up.

In 2016, it was revealed that Selena had been fighting depression. She undertook rehab to overcome her depression. Then next year, news of dating  Weeknd came out.

•  Revival:                 

Revival is the second studio album made by American singer Selena Gomez. It was released on October 9, 2015. It was said that she began planning the album project since 2014.

The album’s title track (‘Revival’), emphasis the themes of self-care, embracing one’s inner power and self-restoration.

Mikael Wood from the Los Angeles Times praised the album for being “surprisingly modest, from its midtempo pacing to its thoughtful introspection,” acknowledging the fact that “Gomez is finding freedom in control, kudos to her for getting there so quickly.”

Bella Hadid made her feelings known in response to the romantic relationship between Selena Gomez and The Weeknd by unfollowing Gomez on Instagram.

Bella had dated The Weeknd for two serious years until the couple called it off. However, the source told that Hadid is especially mad at Selena for a reason. First of all, Selena Gomez seems to be flaunting her relationship in front of Hadid and, basically, the entire world.

• Selena Gomez Reportedly Checks Back Into Rehab For Mental Health:

                     Selena Gomez had returned to rehab, according to Us Weekly.  Gomez was reportedly receiving treatment at a facility just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. A source told the magazine: “Selena is dealing with lupus, but this break is to focus on her mental health. She can go to a very dark place.”
