Katy Perry born in October 25th 1984 is an American singer and a song writer. She is professionally known as Katy Perry, but her real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. And she was born in Santa Barbara,California. She started taking singing lessons at the age of 9 and learned to play guitar at the age of 13.
Perry completed her, general education development (GED) requirements at age 15, and started pursuing her musical career. She had briefly studied Italian opera at the music academy of the West Santa Barbara. There her singing caught the attention of rock artists Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp from Nashville, Tennessee. In Nashville she started recording demos and learned how to write songs and play guitar.
Start of her singing career:
Perry recorded her debut album, a gospel record titled Katy Hudson. She released the album on March 6, 2001 and went on tour the same year. Also she received positive reviews from the critics, though she was commercially unsuccessful that time. As well as she transitioned from gospel music to secular music, she started writing songs with producer Glen Ballard, and she moved to Los Angelesat the age of 17. Initially, she performed as Katheryn Perry to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson.
She later adopted the name Katy Perry, using her mother’s maiden name. Perry after having three records deal fall apart, she signed with capitol in 2007. She released her first single, ‘UR SO GAY’ later that year. Her career did not fully take off until, she released her next single, ‘I kissed a girl’. She is a pop music sensation.
Katy Perry’s conservative upbringing:
Katy Perry grew up in a very conservative family. Her parents were pastors, and they refused to let her listen to nay rock and other popular songs. The only thing she was allowed to listen in her childhoods was the sister act1 and 2 soundtrack. She and her two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother, also were not permitted to watch cable channels such as, MTV and VH1. At the age of 13, she began rebelling against her strict upbringing by piercing her own nose. Soon after that she became interested in pursuing a career in music.
Perry supports, various charitable organizations and causes. She joined UNICEF in 2013 to assist children in Madagascar with education and nutrition. The same year in December, she was officially Perry has supported various charitable organizations and causes during her career. She has contributed to organizations aimed at improving the lives and welfare of children in particular. In April 2013, she joined UNICEF and wasnamed a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, with a special focus on engaging young people in the agency’s work to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children and adolescents. Perry arranged for the portion of the money generated from tickets to her prismatic world tour to go to UNICEF.
In 2010, Perry helped build and design the Boys Hope/Girls Hope foundation shelter for youth in Baltimore, Maryland. Perry also supports organizations aimed at aiding people suffering with diseases including cancer and HIV/AIDS. She has designed an item of clothing for H&M’s ‘Fashion against AIDS’ campaign in June 2009, which raises money for HIV/AIDS awareness projects. She also had a cast made of her breast, during 2008 Wraped Tour, to raise money for A Breast Foundation.
Perry’s Affair & Relationships:
Katy and Gym Class Heroes’ singer, Travis McCoy, dated on and off for many yearsand they finally spilt in 2009. When Katy was recording the video for ‘I kissed agirl’, she was still dating Travis at that time.
After her split with Travis, she got engaged with Russell Brand during the Christmas holidays in 2009. Russellpropose Katy in India around New Year2009, while sitting atop an elephant and watching the fireworks. Katy married Russell brand in India with totallyIndian marriage theme.
But sadly, Russell brand filed for divorce from her after a year of their marriage in December 2011.
